Lorry sheds load on Tesla

Company Director Neil Collins and his wife Alison were lucky to escape from their Tesla Model 3 with minor injuries after this crash last week, in which a lorry shed its load of insecure concrete slabs on top of the car as it rounded a bend.

There appear to be two key lessons for fleet operators and business drivers from this incident:

  • It is imperative to ensure loads are secured properly and not in danger of leaving the vehicle, as they did in this instance.
  • Any business driver is at risk when out on the roads – even when, as in Mr Collins’ case, the driver has done nothing wrong.

Had the incident been more serious and the car occupants seriously injured, the Health and Safety Executive would have been likely to get involved and to have investigated further.
