Changing Driver Behaviour
National Highways have launched a new resource specifically geared at those who employ drivers to help them with setting habits for safer driving.
The aim is to help organisations embed vehicle checking for work based driving. The resources support employers in working through the 5 steps to introducing and sustaining vehicle checking habits.
The National Highways team worked with Ipsos to understand what change was needed, particularly around habitual behaviours such as vehicle checks. The researchers spoke to the drivers, the fleet operators and the organisations who employed them, to understand the barriers to developing and sustaining the desired behaviour.
The insight they gained informed the work done subsequently in producing these new resources, which will support fleet managers and employers in developing a simple framework around Capability, Opportunity and Motivation, and thus ensure success.
