Driving for Better Business in West Midlands

Driving for Better Business is working with Transport for West Midlands to deliver tools, information and resources tailored specifically to help local businesses with staff who drive for work.

Driving for Better Business is a government-backed National Highways programme. Our mission is to improve safety and reduce risk for all those who drive or ride for work, by promoting good management practice and demonstrating the significant business benefits.

The programme is free to join and all our resources are free to access and distribute. Check out some of the improvements that have been seen by other local firms and then join the programme to see if your business can benefit.

“Analysis of our regional road casualty figures show that between 2017 and 2021 there were 193 killed and seriously injured road casualties involving a goods vehicle. Alarmingly, over 60% of the casualties were pedestrians with 27% being the driver of the vehicle. These figures do not include those using a private car for work journeys. Far too many road users are killed or injured in collisions involving someone who is at work. Road safety is a shared responsibility, and we all have our part to play. TfWM are pleased to be working with National Highways and the Driving for Better Business team to offer this essential guidance and support to our local businesses and organisations. It is in all our interests that everyone has the chance to get it right.”

Operation Tramline

Police using unmarked HGV cabs

Police across the country use these unmarked HGV cabs to target dangerous driving offences such as phone use. They don’t just target HGV drivers though – 60% of offences recorded are by car and van drivers.
