Over 25,600 lives were lost on roads across the European Union in 2016 and it is likely that up to 40% of all road deaths are work-related. Duty of care, occupational safety and health (OSH) and road safety compliance are legal necessities in all EU member states, and employers must take them into consideration. This is true of the UK, even after we leave the EU, as the legal requirements are embedded in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
