The Brake Fleet Safety Awards were held last night at the Birmingham Hilton Metropole near the NEC and, once again, our Business Champions were well represented. The fact that so many attended is testament to their commitment to promoting road safety and helping to sustain a thriving community of like-minded individuals.
We had a business champion winner in the first category with food producer G’s Fresh winning the Company Driver Safety Award in the Medium Fleet category. This award is for the organisation that has done the most to promote and achieve safer driving among employees.
Royal Mail, a business champion for many years, was also highly commended in the Large Fleet category before going on to win the next award for Sustainable Journeys. This award goes to the organisation that has done the most to reduce risk and fuel emissions by introducing sustainable travel and journey routing choices, such as encouraging cycling, walking and public transport use as alternatives to driving, using environmentally friendly fuels and vehicles, and reducing transportation needs.
Our Driving for Better Business Ambassadors were also successful with Mark Bromhall of Royal Mail winning the Road Risk Manager of the Year Award and, the highlight of the evening for anyone who knows her, Tracey Fuller of Arval winning the Kevin Storey Award for Outstanding Commitment to Road Safety.
This award goes to the individual who has gone above and beyond the call of duty in their commitment to road safety, not just within the organisation but also the wider community. This was recognition for the tireless work Tracey has done over many years promoting not just fleet safety but improved road safety for all road users, including some of the most vulnerable. Congratulations Tracey – it was thoroughly well deserved!

Well done to all our business champions who won awards or were highly commended – they showed just what can be achieved and should all be seen as an inspiration to others. Thanks also to Malcolm, Mike and Steve at campaign supporter Licence Bureau for the kind invitation to join their table for the evening. All in all it was a very enjoyable evening in great company.
