The Department for Transport’s British Road Safety Statement (2015) placed emphasis on improving occupational road safety by promoting good practice to employers. Specific Government priorities objectives include working towards a reduction in work-related road collisions and encouraging faster uptake of new vehicle safety technology such as Autonomous Emergency Braking systems (AEB) which have been proven to significantly reduce crashes and third party insurance claims.
Jesse Norman, MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Roads, Local Transport and Devolution, said:
“The Highways England Driving for Better Business Programme supports the British Road Safety Statement in raising awareness of the importance of work-related road safety.
Road safety is not just a matter for government and the public sector. It is an issue that requires support from the private sector, and that means businesses making sure they are compliant with current legislation.”
